The Provence way of life: cook your Mediterranean meal!

I was born in Marseille. Although I lived for some of my adolescence in California, I returned to France, specifically to Provence, in 1994. In my family, cooking has always been a time for sharing.

I suggest we meet in Marseille for a unique experience based on the Provence way of life and cuisine. I will welcome you to my family apartment in the old quarter of Marseille. Together, we will prepare a 3 course meal. Here is a suggestion :
Starter: Supions (squid) à la marseillaise
Main: Rack of lamb with anchovy butter
Dessert: Seasonal strawberries with mint and pine nuts
Throughout the workshop, I will tell you about the knowledge and tricks my grandmothers gave to me, as my mother still does today. Sitting at the table in a 50s-style room, we will share our culinary creations together and talk about Marseille, its history, its eccentricities and its inhabitants who are so proud to live here.

Useful Information

Please note that I need a minimum of 2 participants to be able to run the activity at the indicated price. Should I not have enough people signed up for the activity, I will suggest another date or you can be fully reimbursed.

Cette matinée a été très riches en saveurs et clichés digne de Marseille. Gilles nous a fait découvrir le marché au vieux port, un somptueux marchand de légumes dont les produits dont exclusivement issus de producteurs provençaux, ainsi que d'autres bonnes adresses d'artisans.
Ensuite l'accueil de sa maman en plein cœur de Marseille pour cuisiner les produits achetés au cours de la matinée. Vient ensuite les conseils de cuisines et recettes provençales pour finir par un moment de dégustation digne de grands restaurants. Bref, que du bonheur pendant plus de 5h, baignant dans la vie provençale en plein cœur de Marseille. Un grand merci à Gilles pour ces moments....

just Brilliant! Gilles met us at the Vieux Port, and after choosing all our ingredients and learning loads, we went back to his beautiful appartment to prepare our feast, loads of tips, great vibe, really relaxed, great pace, great food, cant recommend highly enough. We were a group of 6 adults. Gilles is bilingual.

Thank you for a lovely experience.
Shopping for ingredients with you in the bustling port and markets of Marseille, then learning to cook the Provence way.
We had a great time and your manner of explaining and teaching us was really pleasant and enjoyable.
Not to mention the fabulous feast with delicious wine that followed!!!
We'll be back for sure.

Nous avons eu rendez-vous avec Gilles le matin sur le vieux port de Marseille. La journée à commencer avec un tour pour voir les pêcheurs et des explications très intéressant sur leur travail et des poissons variée qu'on trouve à la mer méditerranéen. Ensuite on est passer au marché pour choisir nous légumes, chez le boucher pour la viande et ensuite on est monter dans l'appartement de Gilles qui était charmant. Après des explications de notre chef cuisinier, on a tous commencer à préparer notre déjeuner. Un menu délicieux qu'on a tous déguster ensemble. Un super journée avec Gilles, sa maman et les autres participants. A refaire rapidement avec des amis.

Gilles is very knowledgeable and great company. His tour was AMAZING! I loved every bit of it, from the shopping spree in the markets to the apero on the beautiful sunny balcony, preparing the food together and then sharing the meal. The setting was perfection and we were privileged to meet Gilles' adorable mother, a woman of great taste and warmth. Her apartment is to die for, full of flowers and interesting things. I'm a country girl at heart but this tour made me see the hidden joys of life in Marseille. Things I would never have discovered without Gilles as a guide. Full marks from me, I recommend this tour to anyone who loves top quality, authentic food and good wine (that's everyone isn't it?) BRAVO
